Ernest George Whitelock (1905-1947) was born on 17 June 1905 at Sandford Orcas, Dorset to Charles Whitelock (1885-?) and his wife Mabel Whitelock nee English (1884-1968). Ernest was baptised at Sandford Orcas on 20 August 1905.

Ernest married Evelyn Mary Kelly (1904-1989) on 18 June 1930 at Sutton Waldron, Dorset. Evelyn was born at Sutton Waldron on 9 February 1904.

Ernest and Evelyn moved to Tyneham in 1933 and lived at 2 The Row until 1942.

Ernest and Evelyn had three children, one of whom died soon after birth:

• Eileen May Whitelock (1931-2015) – Eileen married Kenneth Eastment (1930-2022) and they had a daughter Gillian.

• Muriel Ada Whitelock (1933) – Sadly Muriel died shortly after birth. She was buried at Melcombe Horsey, Dorset.

• Ronald George Whitelock (1935-2019) – Ron was born at Tyneham. Ron married Myrtle and they had a son Lionel. They lived in East Morden, Dorset. Ron died in Poole Hospital on 11 March 2019 aged 83 years.

My father worked for Walter Case Smith at Tyneham Farm. There were lots of troops billeted at Tyneham. My father acted as an unofficial barber. I remember them sitting on the wall in front of the cottage whilst he cut their hair.

Ernest died in 1947. In 1949, Evelyn married Samuel Bushrod Watts (1914-1976). She died in 1989.
