Off Limits: Povington is strictly off limits at all times.
Povington lies to the north of Tyneham and east of Whiteway. It was home to many families over the generations. Sadly the whole area is off limits and its former residents are often forgotten. It is now home to an automated railway-based moving target system for firing practice.

In 1943, F P Cooper was the occupier.
Black Cottage
Black Cottage was home to the Singleton family for a short period before they moved to Pine Tree Cottage.

In 1943 , the occupier was Richard John Way (1867-1957).
Heather Cottage

In 1943 the occupier was William Joseph ‘Joseph’ Cooper (1871-1961).

Povington Farm
Povington Farm was farmed by:
- James Chilcott (1825-1909) from c.1861 to c.1890
- Job Churchill (1848-1931) from c.1902 to 1915.
- Thomas Walter Wrixon (1885-1960) from c.1916 to 1943.
Primrose Cottage
Primrose Cottage was home to builder George Stewart Chapple (1879-1942) in 1942. He was buried that year in Tyneham Churchyard.
At the time of the evacuation in 1943, Helen Dorothy Allday, a midwife at Cornelia Hospital, Poole was understood to have lived in the property.
Searley’s Holding / Farm
In 1841 the occupier was George Searly. In 1943 the occupier was Arthur James Cooper (1884-1969).
